John is an only child in the Richards family. He grew up going to church and was taught the gospels, but never received the meaning behind the words. As time went on, John remained cold-hearted about everything and refused to be a part of the family. John became a person he would never have believed of becoming as a child. His stubborn choices started to make his life tougher until finally he woke up and came to the conclusion that he cannot run from himself, and certainly not God.

The incredible story of a young man struggling to find his way, started as an idea about a half a year before production. Mark Landry met a man named Kyle, by God's grace. His life inspired Mark and he wanted to use key aspects of Kyle's testimony in his new film, which was in early pre-production at the time. Mark's brother, Peter, started brain storming and they got a basic outline. Then, he started writing the script.

The moral of the story is that God gave Mark the idea. With this story, Mark and his brother were able to produce an inspiring film that glorifies God. That is the reason why "Saved By Death" has touched lives so far, within the cast and crew.
